Lorraine Cloughley 1934 - 21 March 2020
Lorraine Salvatore, a resident of Darien for 45 years, passed away peacefully sometime before dawn on Saturday, March 21. She was 86. One of seven Cloughley children, Lorraine moved from Jersey City, NJ to Stamford as a young woman just starting out. She found an apartment in the Cove section of Stamford, living above a lovely Italian woman she called Nonni. Nonni had a handsome young nephew who had immigrated from Italy a few years earlier. A match was made by the Grandmas; eventually the young couple married and moved to Darien’s “Little Italy”. Lorraine settled right into Noroton Heights, working at Stoler’s, Palmer’s, and lastly at what was known in the neighborhood as “the Prayer Factory”. These jobs kept her close to home so she could be there for her two children. In her spare time, Lorraine began a candy business out of her home called “Candy Craft Originals”. She made chocolate novelty pops, bonbons, and more intricate designs for special occasions. She loved decorating for holidays. She had a wonderful sense of humor. On hot summer days, she was known to sneak up on a lazy kid to drop a load of warm laundry fresh out of the dryer on them. She had a curious habit of giggling when someone stubbed his toe or banged her funny bone. She never let you out of the house with wrinkled clothes, and she made sure you sat up straight. She was a devoted mother to both her children. She believed them capable of anything. She loved showtunes and swing music but also adored Barbara Streisand and the BeeGees. Most recently she got into the Eagles despite her insistence that she never did care for that rock ‘n’ roll stuff. She loved bright colors and costume jewelry. She was friendly to everyone she met and strangers felt comfortable opening up to her. In her later years she and her late husband, Lorenzo, moved to North Branford. Lorraine delighted in family pool parties in her backyard. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Larry and his children, Emma, Katherine, and Jack, and by her daughter Susie, her husband, Craig, and their children, Pace and Wade. She is also survived by her sister Joan, her husband Charles, their children, Jimmy, Jane, and Jeannie and their families.

Maisch, IV who was the joy of her life and his fiancé Tessa. Audrey was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed. Audrey was born in Jersey City to the late Angelo and Margaret Soldati. She graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City and went to work as an executive secretary for the President of Jansen Dairies. After marriage, she moved to Hasbrouck Heights and raised her family. Audrey became a well known school secretary at the Hasbrouck Heights Jr./Sr. High School and her neighbors also knew her as a great fan of her hometown team-the cow bell was hard to miss. She was a former Den Mother, a faithful member of her church as well as her husband's church and was active in the community of Hasbrouck Heights. A personal note from the webmaster of this DHS website. I knew Audrey for most of our lives from being classmates at Dickinson High School. Every five years or so, she along with Daris Duffy worked on our Class Reunions. They were always well attended through their efforts. It is sorry to say that our last reunion was held October 21, 2007, not that anyone didn't want to come anymore, but more like they couldn't because of infirmities of one sort or another. Even so, Audrey and I kept in touch occasionally to chat about our good times at our events. I didn't know about her passing until her son Stephen called me today (17 June 2020) to tell me the sad news. Audrey, you are missed and when the time comes, let us plan a BIG Reunion above. Rest in Peace. Karl E. Gansberg
Joan A. (nee Allen) Wos, 90, of Little Falls died peacefully Sunday, June 5, 2022, with her loving daughter, Karen, at her bedside.
Born in Union City, NJ, Mrs. Wos was raised in Jersey City, NJ, where she resided until she married in April 1960 and moved to Clifton, NJ. She lived there prior to making Little Falls her home in 1969.
Mrs. Wos graduated from William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City and attended Barbizon Modeling School. She was featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, after being selected at Central Plaza Dixieland in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. Following graduation, she pursued a secretarial career path with her first job at the Credit Bureau of North Jersey in Union City. Following that, she was employed at Yardley of London in Union City from 1950 to 1952 and then went on to work in the sales department at WOR Radio in New York City from 1952 to 1954. In keeping with the entertainment theme (one of her life’s passions), she continued working in Manhattan as an executive assistant, first at the business office of Loews International Theatres for three years and then Campus Film Productions in 1958. She was employed there until 1963, when she left to raise her daughter, Karen. Years later, she worked part-time for The Herald News, Sears, Manpower and Visiting Health Services. During the few years Mrs. Wos and her husband, Ron, lived in Spring Lake Heights, NJ, she also worked for Michael F. Clark & Associates. She officially retired in 2004.
Mrs. Wos was a lifelong devotee of music and entertainment – she enjoyed Broadway shows, classic films, Dixieland jazz, Big Band and Swing music and dancing. On the night of their engagement, they attended “The Music Man” on Broadway, which led to their selection of the wedding song, “'Til There Was You.” Mrs. Wos and her husband were devoted fans of their good friend and musician, Al Rando, who played piano at the Jersey Shore, where they initially met at the Hoffman House in Point Pleasant in the late 1950s. In her later years, she was an avid reader and enjoyed playing solitaire (the old-fashioned way with an actual deck of cards) and doing word search puzzles.
Mrs. Wos was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ronald F. Wos on June 9, 2020; her parents, Robert and Julia (nee Nolan) Allen and her brother, Robert J. Allen. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Wos of Woodland Park, NJ, and many cousins. Additionally, survivors include her brother-in-law Robert Burkowski and his wife, Gayle, of West Virginia; four nephews and nieces, Richard, Ellen, Robin and Roger, and six great-nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 pm & 7:00-9:00 pm at Bizub-Parker Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Little Falls, with a Funeral Service at 8:00 pm. Private Cremation will follow with inurnment at B/G William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. As an alternative to flowers, please consider a contribution to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
Personal note; Joan Allen and I (Karl Gansberg) grew up together along with other friends on North Street in the 1940's and 50's. Once we graduated from school, we all went different ways. Naturally we lost contact with our friends, We all had our careers. In 2013, there was an Dickinson High School Alumni Reunion, where I cannot remember My wife JoAnne and I were standing in the hallway of the venue when a couple came along and the wife said to me 'Are you Karl?" I was and she said "I'm Joan Allen". After SIXTY-ONE years, we connected all over again. For the next few years, we would call each other just to say "Hello". The day her daughter, Karen, called me and told of Joan's passing, I cried. Men are not suppose to cry, but I did. Now I am missing you and am so happy that we were able to become 'North Street' friends again. JOAN, I love you and Rest in Peace with Ron. Until we all meet again.
